Bio-Renewable Fuels and Carbon Neutralisation

You’d have to have been living under a rock to not be aware of the potential threat of global warming. There are several things that we can all do to help the environment. One of them is using bio-renewable fuels.

Contrary to popular belief, bio-renewable fuels do generate emissions and pollute the environment. However these emissions are generally much lower than hydrocarbon based fuels and, most importantly, the plants required to make the bio-fuels absorb as much, if not more carbon than the burning of the fuel generates. Because of this bio-fuels are classed as environmentally friendly.

There are various forms of bio-renewable fuels. We can change your existing fuel useage to wholly or partly bio-fuel, ensuring you’re doing your bit!

In addition bio-fuels are much cheaper than fossil fuel based diesel (typically 12p a lt less).

Making your business carbon neutral is a simple two step process:

  1. Assess the amount of carbon the business generates annually. This will include heating, electricity and vehicles.

  2. Calculate what is needed to offset the amount of carbon you generate. As an example, a 2.0lt diesel car travelling 12,000miles per year will generate 2.8 tonnes of CO2. Planting four trees will absorb 2.8 tonnes per year. Once we know what your emmissions are we would advise on the best options for your company to become carbon nuetral.

Planting trees is usually the most effective way of neutralising carbon, tt’s not just the leaves converting carbon dioxide to oxygen that makes a difference. A typical tree is is approx 50% carbon. The tree trunk and branches use carbon as building blocks, so planting a tree stores carbon and takes it out the atmosphere to play no further part in global warming!
